Doctor Matt Ridley has had careers in journalism, as a scientific correspondent and as an author on genetics and human behaviour. His books include The Red Queen, The Origins of Virtue, Genome and Nature Via Nurture. He currently continues to write while pursuing an active bisness career and has both active and past directorships, including Chair of the International Centre for Lfe, Newcastle upon Tyne, and of Northern Rock plc
Ridley’s books have sold over half a million copies, been translated into 23 languages and been short-listed for six literary prizes. In 2004 he won the National Academies Book Award from the US National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine.
As well as writing, Matt Ridley has a parallel career in business. Between 1996 and 2003 he was the founding chairman of the International Centre for Life, a £70 million science park and education project. He is currently non-executive chairman of Northern Rock plc.
He has ingeniously combined his chromosomes with those of his wife, the neuroscientist Professor Anya Hurlbert, to produce two entirely new human beings. They live at
